About Wetherby
Wetherby is a small market town in West Yorkshire, located 12 miles north east of Leeds. It lies 12 miles West of York, 9 miles south of Harrogate and Tadcaster just 5 miles away.
Wetherby is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Wedrebi, thought to derive from Wether. Wetherby has a growing population with some significant growth in the houses being built on the edge of town, which in turn has seen the town take more commuter residents in working from nearby York, Leeds and Harrogate.
Wetherby sits on the A1 motorway and so is well connected to the North and South with easy access to London and Edinburgh. Wetherby is a popular market town and hold markets in the market Square every week. Furthermore, you can enjoy a day at the races at Wetherby racecourse.
The river Wharfe runs through the towns centre and is home to the famous Wetherby Whaler fish and chip chain. It is said that the England football team manager Gareth Southgate often visits there for a spot of supper every now and then!
Wetherby also has a busy industrial and commercial centre off Sandbeck lame in the Sandbeck industrial estate. Morrisons Supermarket, another Yorkshire brand, has had a supermarket in Wetherby for many years and is part of the popular shopping centre the Horsefair.
Wetherby has many independent restaurants, shops, cafes and bars and a traditional bandstand on the Wharfe riverbank. In the summer this used by local musicians while locals enjoy the summer sun and an ice cream by the river.
