About Bradford

Bradford is without doubt the most diverse city in the north of England. It shares the Leeds-Bradford Airport, now named Yorkshires Airport. Bradford is in the foothills of the Pennines, 8.6 miles west of Leeds, and 16 miles north-west of Wakefield.

Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Bradford rose to prominence in the 19th century as an international centre of textile manufacture, particularly wool. It was a boomtown of the Industrial Revolution, and amongst the earliest industrialised settlements, rapidly becoming the “wool capital of the world”.

Bradford has a large amount of listed Victorian architecture including the Great Victoria Hotel.  Bradford is home to the acclaimed National Science and Media Museum. The museum promotes and celebrates the Television and Film industry as well as the new age of computer science, such as the internet. The Bradford based museum is the most visited museum outside of London.

Famous people and bands from Bradford are the English Rock Band, Terrorvision, The Cult, Tasmin Archer and Kiki Dee. In Bradfords city centre you’ll also find The Adelphi Theatre which was  founded in 1806.

One of Bradford’s proudest achievements came in 2013 when being crowned “Curry Capital of Britain” after seeing off other strong contenders such as Glasgow and Wolverhampton. Bradford scored highly not just for the quality of food and service offered by each of the restaurants, but also for food hygiene, a deep understanding of the curry restaurant sector and its success in collectively raising funds for food charity, The Curry Tree.

Overall, you’ll be in for a great day and night out of shopping, entertainment, education and eating out.
