In 2018 we were determined to make some kind of difference to the planet. We were aware that plastic was causing a huge issue for our environment and we weren’t happy with the fact we were providing so many plastic cups to our customers! After hearing about biodegradable cups we started to look into our options!
In October 2018, we met with several companies who were able to provide planet friendly alternatives to plastic cups. They were all so passionate about their products and this simply encouraged us even more to do what we can to reduce our carbon foot print.
What are the cups made from?
The biodegradable cups we now provide are made from Polylactic Acid. Without going into too much technical detail, Polylactic Acid is taken from various renewable sources. Sources such as corn starch, cassava roots and sugarcane. This makes polylactic acid totally biodegradable! In fact, products made from this can fully decompose within 40-90 days. To think that some plastic takes up to 1000 years to decompose, we think this is a complete no brainer!
In the end, we opted for 4 main products. 2 different styles of cups and 2 different styles of cones. We know that this is only the beginning though! We are already looking at what else we can do to reduce the amount of plastic we use and provide to our customers.

We are now working on encouraging all of our customers to completely move away from purchasing plastic cups and to make the change over to these environmentally friendly alternatives!
