About Chesterfield

Kingston Upon Hull, is usually abbreviated to and more commonly know as Hull. Hull is a port city which lies upon the river Hull. Of course, the Humber Estuary is probably the best known body of water in Hull which is 25 miles inland from the North Sea. Hull is the 4th Largest city in Yorkshire and the Humber with a population of around 243,000 people. 18,000 people are employed directly in the city’s port and the port itself has been a mainstay in the city of Hull for hundreds of years. Today, the port is busier than ever with both freight and passengers using the city’s port. During the second works war, Hull was subjected to a huge bombing campaign by the German army. This is known as the Hull Blitz, Hull had 95% of its houses damaged or destroyed, making it the most severely bombed British city or town in terms of number of damaged or destroyed buildings, apart from London.

Thankfully there is still plenty of Hulls historic architecture left to see. In the early 2000’s Hull benefited from some major development having been left behind for a number of years. Hull now has an abundance of retail space, arena’s city centre cafes and bars. Furthermore, Hull is home to Hull City Football Club and two Rugby League teams, Hull KR and Hull FC. The KCOM stadium is a proud new landmark on the city’s horizon.

Hull is close to the east coast, but remains very well connected by the M62 motorway and the A63 Clive Sullivan Way. Hull is also close to the Humber Bridge, which provides road links to destinations south of the Humber. It was built between 1972 and 1981, and at the time was the longest single-span suspension bridge in the world. It is now eighth on the list.
